Join us as songwriter, guitarist, DJ and folk song collector Liv Carrow presents folk ballads that have crossed between the British Isles, Appalachia and the South.
We will listen to and discuss several examples of ballads that have crossed the Atlantic, sometimes more than once, and transformed over time to become part of pop, country, blues rock n roll canons. Liv will explore the ways that folk balladry and American folk music have been mutually influential in the 20th and 21st century, focusing specifically on the influence of balladry on the British blues-rock, folk-rock and progressive music of the 1960's and 70's and explore the role of British and Appalachian folk ballads in contemporary music.
