Two Iowa PBS productions to commemorate humanitarian refugee resettlement in Iowa
It has been fifty years since Iowa Governor Robert D. Ray agreed to resettle Tai Dam refugees in Iowa. The Tai Dam had fled Vietnam to Laos and Thailand before seeking sanctuary in the United States. Join us for a screening of the Iowa PBS production Governors of Iowa: Robert D. Ray, which depicts this special piece of Iowa history. Stay after this feature to view a brief excerpt from a 2023 episode of Iowa Life that beautifully illustrates how Governor Ray's actions reverberate in our own time.
These screenings are part of the 2025 Global Gathering Vietnam program series, funded by the Bettendorf Public Library Foundation. These screenings are made possible by Iowa PBS, and we are grateful for their willingness to share their content for this program.
