Professor Mariano Magalhães of Augustana College and his students present their recent study abroad trip to Ecuador.

The First Year Global Program at Augustana offers freshmen a unique study abroad experience in their first year. Students embark on a ten-day journey to Cuenca, Ecuador, to partake in activities and engage in issues related to environmental justice.

Mariano J. Magalhães has been a member of the Political Science department at Augustana College since 2003. In 2011, he served as Fulbright Scholar at the Universidade de Brasília and has published articles on various aspects of democracy in Brazil. He has served as the Coordinator of Student Research and Creative Scholarship since 2018. Professor Magalhães has been a key contributor to numerous study abroad programs, including as the director of the Study Abroad Program to Brazil and the First Year Global Program to Ecuador.

The World Affairs Council of the Quad Cities (WACQC) is non-partisan and a 501(c) (3) organization affiliated with World Affairs Council of America. WACQC events are dedicated to educating, inspiring, and engaging Americans in international affairs and the critical global issues of our times.
