Discover the architects, trends and styles that created the Quad Cities' unique sense of place.

Embark on an engaging journey with architectural historian Ellen Shapley as she takes us from the enchanting entrance of a storybook cottage, known for its heartwarming history and masterful but “drunk” brickwork design, to the reflective Carrara glass of the 1930s and '40s, which modernized our 19th-century buildings and still shines today. Discover the legacy of Chicago’s renowned Burnham family of architects and their transformative impact on our cityscapes and waterfronts. Finally, celebrate Davenport’s own contribution to global architectural, James Goettsch, an award-winning architect and 1960 graduate of Davenport Central High School.

Ellen, an enthusiast and sleuth of architectural wonders, loves to explore our cities and share her observations. She has captivated audiences with her tours and talks across Chicago, Portland, Hood River (Oregon), and right here in the Quad Cities. Dive deeper into her explorations by checking out her Facebook page: “ArchiTouring the Quad-Cities” at www.facebook.com/architouringQC/.
